Water Lily Info

Water Lily (WL) is a member of the Nymphaeaceae and lives as a rhizomatous aquatic herb in temperate and tropical climate of the world. It has about 70 species with eight kinds of large flowers. WL is rooted in the soil of water bodies while its leaves and flowers float on the water surface. Its leaves are round with a radical notch and fully circled in some species.

Water Lilies are considered to represent the floral pattern of the earliest flowering plants and are hybridized for temperate gardens. The hybrid category represents three types – hardy, night blooming tropical and day blooming tropical water lilies. The water lilies are mostly used as ornamental plants owing to its’ aesthetics and the Mexican Lily, a native of the gulf coast of North America, is planted throughout the continent.
