Sunflower Info

As the name suggests, it resembles with the sun in shape and has petals all around a large head with an almost black centre. Mexican Sunflower doesn’t have a centre which is grown for ornamental purpose. It thrives in hot and dry conditions and used to be known as a source of food to Native Americans.

The sunflower belongs to the family of Asters and a giant sunflower generally grows to three meters approximately with a traditional yellow color. There are 38 North American species of sunflower a few of which varies from the traditional yellow. Hybridization is also giving birth to unique colors in sunflowers and low pollen sunflowers are helpful for asthma patients.
