Scabious is popularly known as Scabiousa – the long stemmed, butterfly blue or white pincushion seasonal flower grown in July to September. It is a popular cultivar, garden flower and commonly found in Europe and Asia since 1800 A.D. The plant grows well on a neutral soil condition and under full sun meaning a comparatively dry weather condition where drainage works well. It should ideally be planted in the end of winter.
Scabious alias Scabiousa is a genus of teasel family and bears a single flower head enriched with nectars. It therefore attracts quite a good number of insects including moths and butterflies. A variety or two of its species do carry somewhat fragrances.
